In his latest campaign video, Dennis has a full cast of “Wizard of Oz” characters, including a scarecrow, lion and tin man who lament political parties without heart, courage or brains. “Dorothy” says she’s just concerned about debt.
Along comes the wicked witch with the Pelosi haircut who says she’ll save the lost troupe as long as it pays for Wall Street bailouts and her high-price downtown office building. Dennis then shows up with a bucket of “freedom” that he splashes on the witch, and introduces himself as the character to “throw a little water on politicians who say one thing and do another, like Nancy Pelosi.”
But in case anyone thought Dennis wasn’t bipartisan in his attacks, in the ad, he hits up former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson as the wizard who made the mess and takes a parting shot at campaign finance reform supported by Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Russ Feingold, D-Wis.
Dennis, an entrepreneur who earned his living by designing ergonomic office furniture, is a longshot to defeat the speaker and 12-term lawmaker. The latest poll dates back to March and puts him at 19 percent to Pelosi’s 61 percent with 21 percent undecided.
